Introduction by Hugh Peebles
When I first visited Scotland in 1995, it was like a dream come true. Although my holiday included stays in London, Stratford Upon Avon and other locations on the island, my primary destination was Peebles. I felt at home instantly during that first visit; so much so that for my sabbatical I decided to return here for an extended stay.
Speaking with people in the tourist office I wasn't surprised to learn that I was among a number of Peebles who visit here to see the place where our family name originated. I decided that a visitor book might give members of the extended Peebles family a special place to record their reactions to the town and also possibly open contacts with others with the same surname. I've met a number of the people who signed the book and spent some quality time with these "cousins."
If come to Scotland and my schedule has an opening, I'd be delighted to meet any fellow Peebles.
The following are entries from the visitor book.

Hugh Peebles, formerly of San Diego, California. Currently
residing in Peebles, Scotland.
Since I was a small boy I've heard about this town and hoped I would visit someday.
When I first visited the town in 1996 I was enchanted and vowed to return. The
beauty of the town is closely rivaled by the f friendliness of its inhabitants,.
It really feels like home to this American Peebles. peebles@cox.net

We are visiting for the 3rd time to this beautiful town. Although our ancestors
actually came from Fiefeshire we feel we can actually claim some emotional ownership
to this town and the Tweed River.
Cheers from these Penguin Peebles
